BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bakersfield College is kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month with a vibrant celebration of Latino culture. The college’s second annual event will feature a variety of activities, including food from various Latin American countries, a lowrider car showcase, and a keynote speech by civil rights activist Dolores Huerta. Folkloric dancers and mariachi performances will also be part of the festivities.
Cesar Jimenez, Vice President of Student Services at Bakersfield College, said, “Today is an amazing day. It’s going to be an opportunity for us to showcase the Latin culture, the richness, the food and the people.”
The celebration, which runs from September 15 to October 15, aims to engage students, staff, and the community with daily activities across multiple campuses, including Delano, the Arvin Educational Center, and BC Southwest.
Jimenez emphasized the personal significance of the month, stating, “You know, to me, it’s it’s significant as as a son of immigrants who came here to seek this American dream, we’ve been afforded an amazing opportunity, and for us to showcase, you know, the richness and the culture and the people and the contributions to society, to the economy, is significant.”…
