Kern County celebrates “El Grito de Dolores”

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Despite ongoing fears of immigration enforcement, Kern County’s largest Hispanic Heritage celebration, “El Grito de Dolores,” took place in downtown Bakersfield.

This marks the 14th annual celebration in Kern County of Mexico’s independence from Spain and coincides with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.

Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Jay Tasmi, shared the importance of this event to educate the community about its cultural roots.

“Tonight is a night that we get to bring Mexico to Kern County. We get to stand by our immigrants, we get to stand by our Latino community, but we also want to share our culture with other cultures. So this reenactment and this culture and the celebration really bring everything to life,” he said…
