CHP to conduct pedestrian safety operation Sept. 24 in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — California Highway Patrol officers will conduct a pedestrian safety operation in Bakersfield next week targeting motorists and pedestrians who fail to yield the right-of-way or otherwise take unsafe and illegal actions.

During the Sept. 24 operation, plainclothes officers will cross the street at heavily-traveled crosswalks while uniformed officers keep an eye out for those who break the law, according to a CHP release. Warnings or citations may be issued.

“The CHP is conducting this public awareness and enforcement operation to educate and encourage members of the community to develop and maintain safe practices while driving, walking, and bicycling throughout Kern County,” the release says…
