Sea lion splash makes waves at Kern County Fair with rescued performer Gouda

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Visitors to the Kern County Fair can enjoy a unique marine experience without heading to the coast. The fair is hosting the Sea Lion Splash show, featuring Gouda, a 3-year-old rescued sea lion with cataracts, who is captivating audiences with her playful antics.

Roberto Dominguez, Gouda’s trainer, said, “Here we have three sea lions, Gouda, we have Avocado and Stella also. They are all part of the show and you are more welcome to come and look at them. Take a picture with them and watch show. It’s really, really fun. You’ll have a good time.”

Gouda, named after the cheese, is known for her ability to spin, roll, dance, and even balance a ball on her head. Despite her cataracts, which require her to remain in human care, she is eager to interact with fairgoers and show off her skills.

“She’s really cute right now. But she loves to play. She loves attention. She loves to look at the people take pictures with them, and she also likes to bounce the ball,” Dominguez said…
