Cross-Country Predator Sting: California Man Arrested, Released in Jefferson County

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — A California man accused of attempting to meet a 15-year-old girl for sexual relations has been released on bail. Jonathan Joseph Mota Mendoza, 31, of Bakersfield, California, posted $50,000 monetary bail on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025.

Mendoza was arrested on Sept. 18, 2025, in Brookville, Pennsylvania. He faces charges including statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, criminal use of a communication facility, and indecent assault. All charges, except for indecent assault (a second-degree misdemeanor), are first- or third-degree felonies.

Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak initially set Mendoza’s bail at $50,000 monetary on the day of his arrest, and he was confined to Jefferson County Prison.
