CHP operation leads to 28 citations for failing to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — 28 citations were issued after CHP Bakersfield conducted a pedestrian safety enforcement operation Wednesday morning.

CHP said during this operation, officers issued 28 citations to drivers who failed to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk and gave two warnings.

They are reminding drivers that:

  • Drivers must stop for pedestrians in marked and unmarked crosswalks.
  • Always slow down near schools, parks, and neighborhoods.
  • Pedestrians should make eye contact with drivers and cross only when it’s safe.
