Escapee was helped by girlfriend, arrested at her parents’ home in Lamont: report

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The inmate who escaped from custody Saturday managed to avoid law enforcement with the help of his girlfriend, who drove him through Bakersfield and let him use her cellphone, authorities said in a court document.

Investigators learned Francisco Garcia was in the company of Elektra Espinoza, and the two were arrested Monday at her parents’ home in Lamont, according to a probable cause declaration filed in the case.

Garcia, 23, was charged with escaping and Espinoza, 20, as an accessory after the fact. They’re due back in court next week.

Also next week, Garcia is scheduled to be sentenced for a shooting on Kentucky Street in 2021 that wounded two people. He faces up to 80 years to life in prison…
