Kern County officials discuss expected impacts following government shutdown

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — With the shutdown of the government, both State and County officials are preparing for potential closures in Kern County.

Assemblyman Stan Ellis says backdoor negotiations could end this shutdown earlier than when the government last shutdown in 2019, which lasted 34 days — the longest in U.S. History.

“I think if we were able to resolve this in the next week or so, I don’t think you’ll see any more long term effects, and it would be pretty difficult to go that far. And also, the Republicans are not about hurting the employees, they’re about taking care of them and it’s just a political agenda. So, I think we’ll be fine,” Ellis said…
