Family of 6-year-old killed in suspected DUI crash in Bakersfield urges tougher laws

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The family of six-year-old Azmeret Mayall, who was killed in a suspected DUI crash on E. Panama Lane, released a statement and is calling for tougher DUI laws.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on September 28, 2025, at around 7:41 a.m., officers responded to the intersection of Cottonwood Road and E. Panama Lane regarding a multi-vehicle crash.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined a black sedan and a white SUV were driving westbound on E. Panama Lame when the sedan allegedly rear-ended the SUV at high speeds. The crash caused the SUV to roll over and the sedan to veer off the roadway into a nearby vineyard.

The driver of the SUV and an infant suffered minor to moderate injuries. 6-year-old Azmeret Mayall was taken to Orange County Children’s Hospital where she later died from their injuries Monday morning…
