BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Department of Human Services recommended the Social Policy Institute as a candidate for conducting an external review of the county’s child welfare services, following the gruesome death of an 8-year-old girl that left the community in shock.
The Kern County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve the external review during a meeting on Aug. 19, after grieving families and members of the community spoke up about the alleged failures of the child welfare services.
Protesters demanded proper evaluation and change within the system in light of the torture and murder of Genesis Mata, who was allegedly killed by her own father and stepmother in August.
