Father of 16-year-old struck, killed by train in Shafter files claim against Kern County

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The father of a 16-year-old who was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Shafter in August has filed a claim against Kern County.

Jonathan Enrique Medrano, 16, was struck by an Amtrak train at the intersection of Central Avenue and Central Valley Highway in Shafter, according to the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

In the claim included in the Kern County Board of Supervisors agenda, Medrano’s father accuses the county of failing to maintain a safe railroad crossing. The unsafe and unprotected railroad crossing caused hazardous conditions, the claim said…
