BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The California Department of Social Services has issued guidance to counties, including the Kern County Department of Human Services, regarding the impact of the federal government shutdown on CalWORKs (TNAF) and CalFresh (SNAP) benefits. According to the department, funding for CalWORKs is secured for November 2025. However, while October CalFresh benefits remain unaffected, federal funds are not currently available for November benefits if the shutdown persists.
The department assured that applications and recertifications will continue to be processed to ensure benefits can resume promptly once funds are available. Beneficiaries will receive official text and email alerts from the California Department of Social Services starting tonight after 5:30 p.m. through Saturday, Oct. 25.
For further guidance, beneficiaries are encouraged to visit the California Department of Social Services website or capk.org/211kerncounty…
