Kern County Suspect Arrested for Shooting at a Woman in Bodfish, Charged with Attempted Murder

October 31, 2025 – Kern County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on October 18, 2025, at about 4:45 P.M., deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Jones Street in Bodfish regarding a shooting in which a subject fired at an inhabited dwelling. During the investigation, deputies determined the suspect intentionally shot at a female victim with the intent to kill. Two minors were inside the residence at the time of the incident; however, no injuries were reported.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Michael Kemmeter. A Ramey warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm.

On October 23, 2025, deputies located Kemmeter in the 600 block of Laurel Drive and took him into custody without incident. A search warrant was subsequently authored and executed at Kemmeter’s residence, where deputies located multiple firearms and suspected narcotics…
