BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two people were pulled from a partially submerged vehicle and suffered severe injuries following a crash Monday evening, near Shafter emergency officials said.
A crash involving two vehicles was reported just before 6 p.m. at West Lerdo Highway and Scaroni Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Traffic Incident Information Page. One of the vehicles, with two people inside, ended up in a sump off the northeast corner of the intersection.

At least one utility pole was damaged in the crash.
Officials said several good Samaritans tried to help the people in the vehicle, trying to keep their heads above water. Firefighters on scene helped remove two people from the vehicle. One of them was trapped beneath the water, another needed to be cut from the vehicle, fire officials said in a release…
