CHP urges safe driving practices as Thanksgiving travel kicks off across California

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — As the Thanksgiving holiday kicks off, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is urging drivers to buckle up, drive sober, and adhere to traffic laws. “You’ve got a lot of families getting together, and you’re celebrating, so with that comes alcoholic beverages,” said Jorge Toro, public information officer for CHP Bakersfield.

To ensure road safety, CHP will initiate its Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period on Wednesday at 6:01 p.m., continuing through Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Last year, 36 people died in crashes across California during the same period, with over 1,100 DUI arrests. The Bakersfield Police Department and CHP recommend having a plan, such as designating a driver, arranging for rideshares, or staying at the host’s location……
