Few officers account for over a quarter of 2024 complaints against Bakersfield police personnel: report

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A new report by the Bakersfield Monitoring Team found the Bakersfield Police Department has made improvements in its overall approach to managing and investigating complaints filed against officers, but there is more work to be done.

The city of Bakersfield, the police department and the California Department of Justice entered into a stipulated judgment in August of 2021 enacting reforms through a five-year plan. The monitoring team is required to release reports annually showing BPD’s progress in implementing the judgment.

In the report, the monitoring team analyzed the complaints filed against BPD personnel in 2024.
