Kern County Fire Department seeks training for pilots to operate new firefighting aircraft

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Four pilots with the Kern County Fire Department are expected to receive training through June of 2026 to fly the department’s new Firehawk helicopters, according to the Kern County Board of Supervisors agenda for Tuesday.

On March 11, the Board of Supervisors approved purchasing two Firehawk helicopters through United Rotorcraft.

Firehawk helicopters are transformed from Blackhawk helicopters to serve as firefighting aircraft. Both helicopters are currently being converted into Firehawks and are slated to begin service in 2026, the agenda said…
