Bear Valley PD urge caution after driver hits, kills bull elk

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Bear Valley Police Department is cautioning residents to be aware of wild animals in the Bear Valley Springs area, as a driver struck a bull elk on Monday, which died the following day.

Police said on Dec. 8, 2025, at around 5:30 p.m., a driver struck a bull elk on Bear Valley Road at San Juan Drive. The elk was reportedly standing in the road when the vehicle, heading westbound, rounded a curve and struck it.

The vehicle sustained significant damage, but the driver was not hurt, said police. The resident was driving at the posted speed, and distracted driving was not a factor.
