BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The Independent Living Center of Kern County has been awarded a $15,000 grant to bolster its Assistive Technology Repair and Reuse Program.
This initiative provides free mobility devices to individuals with disabilities, ensuring timely access to essential equipment.
The grant will also support the center in replacing and repairing devices. Despite this financial boost, Jimmie Soto, executive director of the center, is urging the community to donate wheelchairs and walkers, as the demand for such equipment remains high. “Someone who uses a wheelchair… they can’t get around,” Soto said. “They need the equipment now… that all takes time.”…
