City of Bakersfield, CAPK seeking $35M to transform former Ramkabir Motel into housing for homeless

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The city of Bakersfield and Community Action Partnership of Kern are looking to ask the state for up to $35 million to provide housing for homeless individuals, according to the Bakersfield City Council meeting agenda for Wednesday.

The city and CAPK want to submit a joint application to the California Department of Housing and Community Development for its Homekey+ program, the agenda said.

Homekey+ is a statewide initiative that aims to develop permanent supportive housing for veterans and individuals with mental health or substance use disorders at risk of, or already experiencing, homelessness. It offers a competitive grant program.
