BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — It has been 16 years since director James Cameron introduced the world of Pandora in the stunningly shot “Avatar.” It was an introduction – and a massive metaphor – for what happens when greed becomes such a driving force that the native people, plants and animals are collateral damage run over by progress.
Cameron introduced an entire species – the Na’vi – to be the chief defenders of the world. Earthlings were able to walk among the locals by taking on avatar bodies. When Marine Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) saw the damage being done he joined the Na’vi to help save them. He also got close to Na’vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) and they started a family.
The 2022 sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” saw Cameon rehashing much of the original story without moving any clear plot point to a satisfying ending. A muddied direction and a lack of originality made the film a plodding experience compared to the first film…
