Coroner ID’s man struck twice on Hwy 99 near Taft Highway

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified a man who was struck by two different vehicles on Highway 99 in December.

Jared Jon Harper, 47, of Bakersfield, was a pedestrian walking southbound on Highway 99 in the #3 lane, south of Taft Highway, on Dec. 29, according to officials.

At around 2:30 a.m., an unknown vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 99 in the #3 lane struck Harper, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver fled the scene, leaving Harper lying in the lane.

About four minutes later, the driver of a Honda also traveling southbound on Highway 99 in the same lane failed to avoid Harper on the ground and struck him, CHP said…
