Bakersfield firefighters reach contract agreement with city; City Council to approve Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield City Council is slated to approve a proposed two-year agreement between the city and its fire employees, leaving just the city’s police officers without a contract, according to the agenda for Wednesday.

The fire department employees, represented by the Bakersfield Professional Fire Association, recently concluded labor negotiations with the city, according to the agenda.

They agreed to a two-year Memorandum of Understanding for employees in the Firefighters and Engineers Unit and the Fire Supervisory Unit running from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027, city officials said.

The agreement includes a 2% increase for the first full pay period following approval by the City Council and a 1.6% increase for the first full pay period after July 1, 2026, according to city documents…
