Houchin Community Blood Bank issues urgent call for donors after Highway 58 crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Houchin Community Blood Bank is issuing an immediate emergency plea for blood donors following the 30+ vehicle crash on Highway 58 near Towerline Road Tuesday morning.

According to CHP, injuries from the crash range from minor to major.

Houchin Community Blood Bank said in a release that they are currently rushing significant amounts of blood and blood products to the trauma center, Kern Medical, to treat those who are injured.

“We were already facing a shortage due to the storms disrupting our imports,” said Anna Kazaryan, Director Of Donor Relations. “Now, with this tragic accident on Highway 58, we are in a worst case scenario. We cannot rely on shipments from other states right now, we need our local community to roll up their sleeves immediately.”…
