Porterville mother accepts plea deal after leaving son in hot car during cosmetic procedure

A Porterville mother has accepted a plea deal in relation to the death of her son, who was left in a hot car for hours in Bakersfield last year.

Kern County judge Charles Brehmer announced the agreement between the Kern County District Attorney’s office and 20-year-old Maya Hernandez during a hearing on Wednesday.

The DA’s office will be dropping the first-degree murder charge and in exchange, Hernandez will plead no-contest to involuntary manslaughter and two additional enhancements of child cruelty. She will also receive two strikes on her record…
