‘I can’t believe stuff like that can happen’: Plaza workers weigh in on south Bakersfield newborn death

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Although the Bakersfield Police Department said it has no updates on the incident that left one newborn dead in south Bakersfield on Monday, workers in the Plaza Vallarta shopping center are speaking out.

“I just honestly, I can’t believe stuff like that can happen. And mostly just, like, behind our job,” said Kelly Lopez, a customer service representative.

Lopez works at Apoyo Financiero Bakersfield located right next to the Wingstop off Panama Lane. Her parking spot is just several feet away where a newborn was found dead early Monday morning.
