Bakersfield police arrest 6 in retail theft crackdown tied to $15,000+ in losses

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police arrested six suspects during a suppression operation targeting organized retail theft, saying the suspects are repeat offenders tied to multiple cases across several major retailers.

The Bakersfield Police Department’s Organized Retail Theft unit coordinated the operation on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026. Police said the arrests involved multiple retail thefts with a combined financial impact to retailers totaling $15,338.20.

Police arrested Sonny Cardoza, 46, on multiple charges, including grand theft, organized retail theft, shoplifting and possession of stolen property. Police said Cardoza is responsible for 18 theft cases involving Lowe’s, Target, JCPenney and Tractor Supply…
