BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Actress/director Maggie Gyllenhaal went to see a screening of the 1935 feature “The Bride of Frankenstein” starring Elsa Lanchester as the Bride. She left the theater with a lot of questions.
“The Bride isn’t in it. I mean, she’s in it for two minutes and she doesn’t say one word. It made me very curious about what she might be thinking or feeling,” Gyllenhaal says. “I think all sorts of women in movies made a long time ago, we don’t get a chance to get really inside of what was she thinking. What was her perspective on that?
“And so that was the original kind of spark of inspiration, especially because she finds herself in such an insane situation having been brought back from the dead without her consent to be the wife of someone that she’s never met.”…
