Kern County cracks down on unpermitted food vendors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County is cracking down on food vendors without permits, conducting sting operations to demand they stop selling products on the streets.

It’s not just a taco or a hot dog. According to health officials, unpermitted food vendors are a health risk. Because of this, Kern County Public Health hosted a series of sweeps within the last two weeks. Subsequently, 13 vendors received cease and desist orders, and “hazardous” food was taken away from eight vendors.

“Operating without a permit is dangerous,” said Brynn Carrigan, the director of KCPH.

“Our agency ensures that when people are permitted, they are operating safely and they are not going to make our residents sick from eating in those establishments.”…
