Pedestrian identified after fatal hit-and-run on Belle Terrace

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A woman struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run on Belle Terrace Saturday night has been identified as Lalita Marie Young, 49, of Bakersfield, said the Kern County coroner. The suspected driver was arrested shortly after the crash and is charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Bakersfield police said on Saturday, around 9:50 p.m., officers first responded to the 200 block of Belle Terrace to reports of a car striking a pedestrian. They found a woman with major injuries in the road, who later died at the scene.

Police said they discovered that the woman was on the south shoulder of the road when a car driving eastbound veered from the road and struck her. The driver fled from the area after the crash, according to witnesses…
