Delano City Council shuts down ordinance proposing to restrict ICE agents on city property

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Delano City Council became divided over a proposed ordinance designed to strengthen restrictions on federal immigration agents and related enforcement operations on city property.

The ordinance, also called the “Community First” ordinance, was scheduled for discussion and direction by the City Council, according to the agenda for the Monday meeting.

Councilmembers Liz Morris, Joe Alindajao and Mayor Pro Tem Mario Nunez Jr. voted against the proposed ordinance while Mayor Solorio-Ruiz and Councilmember Bryan Osorio voted in favor of it, making the ordinance fail to move forward with a 2-3 vote…
