BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The criminal case against the father of slain 8-year-old Genesis Mata, whose burned and battered body was found in a motel room bathtub, has been suspended so he can be examined by a psychologist to determine if he’s competent to stand trial.
The competency exam was granted Friday by Judge Charles R. Brehmer after a request from Ray Mata Jr.’s public defenders, Sunny Gallo and Julius Cruz.
