BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — City officials said staff recently noticed a mistake that affected about 30% of residents not receiving a notice proposing increases to sewer rates.
Prop 218 notices sent out on March 6, 2026, did not get sent to around 30% of addresses, said the city. The city mailed the proper notices to those addresses during the week of March 16.
Under the proposal, the city would increase the sewer rate to $475 in year one, then raise it by $100 each year, reaching $875 by year five. If more than half of the property owners submit written protests, the rate hike cannot move forward…
