Kern County agencies respond to Porterville shooting that killed detective, lawmakers react

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Law enforcement agencies from Kern County responded to an active shooter situation in Porterville that led to the death of a Tulare County detective.

At least five agencies responded Thursday, including the Delano Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff Office SWAT unit, which brought along an armored vehicle called “rook.”

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office says officers arrived at a home in the area of Newcomb Street and Grand Avenue in Porterville — about 50 miles north of Bakersfield — around 10:30 a.m. and were immediately met with gunfire with a high-powered rifle…
