Suspect arrested after 8-hour standoff in Maricopa

An eight-hour-long standoff between a suspect and a large contingent of Kern County Sheriff’s deputies ended peacefully Wednesday evening with the arrest of a man on multiple charges.

The standoff started just after 11 a.m. when deputies were called to a house on the 900 block of Tulare to assist code compliance officer with a trespasser. The suspect, later identified as Ray Chester Dorman, 48, stayed in the house and refused orders to leave.

There were reports that Dorman hand a handgun but he was was unarmed when he was taken into custody. He was, however, charged with brandishing a firearm at deputies…
