1 dead, 1 injured in crash on South H Street: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police said that a passenger died and a driver suffered moderate injuries after their vehicle crashed into a tree in the 2600 block of South H Street just before 5 p.m. Tuesday.

At around 4:56 p.m., officers responded to South H Street and Wilson Road regarding a solo vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a woman, accompanied by another woman as a passenger, was driving a black Chevrolet sedan northbound in the 2600 block of South H Street. For reasons currently under investigation, the driver veered off the road and crashed into a tree in the center median.

Police said excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Officials are investigating whether the driver was under the influence.

BPD reminds residents that the 2600 block of South H Street is a north-to-south road with two lanes in each direction, separated by a raised, landscaped median with mature trees. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the passenger at a later time…
