BALTIMORE, MD—Dangerous heat, high humidity, and severe thunderstorms are threatening the mid-Atlantic region on Thursday, prompting weather officials to issue a heat advisory for Washington, D.C., Baltimore and surrounding areas.
The National Weather Service issued the heat advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday for areas near and east of the Interstate 95 corridor, stretching from northeast Maryland down to the northern neck of Virginia. Forecasters warned that combination of high temperatures and humidity could drive heat index values up to 105 degrees.
The heat index represents how hot it actually feels outside when humidity is combined with the air temperature. Weather officials warned that these conditions can quickly cause heat-related illnesses.
