BALTIMORE, Md. — Health officials declared a measles outbreak across three Maryland counties on Monday after identifying 14 new confirmed cases, bringing the state’s total number of infections this year to 31.
The Maryland Department of Health reported the new cases in St. Mary’s, Carroll, and Cecil counties, noting that all 14 individuals were unvaccinated. State health officials said no public exposures have been identified, as most of the cases occurred among household contacts, indicating no evidence of widespread community transmission.
A total of 27 cases have been confirmed since July 15, all involving unvaccinated residents. St. Mary’s County has recorded the highest concentration with 13 cases, followed by Carroll County with eight, Cecil County with five, and Charles County with one.
