BALTIMORE, Md. — The Maryland Office of the Attorney General announced Friday that it has concluded its review into the 2016 death of Tawon Boyd, finding insufficient evidence to reopen a criminal investigation or pursue charges against the officers involved.
Boyd, a 21-year-old Black man, died two days after an encounter with Baltimore County police officers who restrained him during a response to a emergency call in Middle River on Sept. 19, 2016.
The review was conducted as part of an ongoing state audit examining 41 restraint-related deaths between 2003 and 2019. In 2025, independent medical examiners reviewing those cases determined that the deaths, including Boyd’s, should have been classified as homicides rather than accidents or undetermined causes.
