MARYLAND — Sunday is expected to bring two rounds of stormy weather across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic. A morning squall may push through between 7 and 10 a.m., moving from south to north with heavy rain and wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph. Later in the day, instability and upper-level energy could fuel another round of storms that may turn severe. Rainfall totals are expected to average 1 to 2 inches across the region.
Morning Squall Moves In Between 7 and 10 A.M.
The first round of weather is expected as a squall line pushing north early Sunday. Futurecast guidance at 7 a.m. shows heavy rain moving through Washington, Annapolis, and Baltimore and heading toward the northeast.
Morning temperatures will be mild, mostly in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Baltimore is forecast near 61 degrees, Annapolis near 63, and Washington near 62.
Gusty Winds Up to 40 MPH
Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph are possible during the morning hours. Surface winds will blow from the northeast, while heavy rain moves toward the northeast.
These opposing forces point to wind shear in the atmosphere, which can support severe storms later. The strongest gusts are expected near the Chesapeake Bay, with Cambridge near 40 mph and Ocean City near 42 mph.
Severe Storms Possible Later Sunday
A late-day or evening round of storms could turn severe as instability and upper-level energy move through. Damaging winds and an isolated tornado are possible…
