CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A Baltimore man was sentenced on Thursday in connection with an attempted fentanyl distribution in Chesapeake.
U.S. District Judge Arenda L. Wright Allen sentenced 37-year-old Clyde Desmond Ringgold, Jr. to ten years in prison for possessing fentanyl and a synthetic fentanyl, which he had intended on distributing to his co-conspirator, 36-year-old Dorman Winston Mewborn.
Court documents reveal that on Nov. 30, 2022, the Chesapeake Police Department recovered multiple substances, including fentanyl, heroin and cocaine, at Mewborn’s residence. An investigation was conducted, which revealed that Ringgold had been supplying Mewborn with narcotics since early 2022.
Law enforcement agencies conducted surveillance on Dec. 21, 2022, after Ringgold arrived on a flight from Baltimore to Norfolk. Officers say that Ringgold drove to Mewborn’s residence, where he intended to collect on a drug debt and deliver two ounces of heroin for $4000.
Officers arrested and searched Ringgold after he arrived to Mewborn’s residence, where he was found to possess 40 grams of fentanyl, $2000 and a cell phone containing multiple photos of kilograms of controlled substances.
