Max Scherzer Adds Yet Another Spectacular Achievement To Hallowed Career

Texas Rangers Starting Pitcher Max Scherzer made history on Friday night on the road against the Baltimore Orioles. With a strikeout of Ramon Urias in the bottom of the second inning, Scherzer passed Greg Maddux on the all-time strikeouts list with 3,372 punchouts. Next up on the all-time list for Max Scherzer is former teammate Justin Verlander at 3,393 strikeouts.

This is only the second start of the season for Max Scherzer. The veteran had back surgery in December of 2023 and a thumb/forearm/triceps injury slowed down his return to the rubber this season. Scherzer tossed six scoreless innings on June 23 in his first start since October 30, 2023. He tossed 5.1 innings this evening and surrendered two earned runs.

He was on the short end as the Texas Rangers lost 2-1 to the Orioles. Scherzer is 1-1 this season with an ERA of 1.74. Scherzer pitched well on Friday night but his offense was no help as they were stifled by the pitching staff of the Baltimore Orioles.

How will Scherzer fare as he continues to work his way back from an extended absence?
