A single mother expecting a second child who is a fixture in her community lost everything … Now that community is rallying around her.
On Tuesday, Oct. 15, crews in Baltimore County battled a five-alarm blaze that impacted nearly a dozen residences in Hampden, including Jessica Garrett’s home, which was destroyed by the Keswick Road fire.
In response, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of support from friends, neighbors, and loved ones, as they help Garrett and her 3-year-old daughter – and future child – rebuild.
“You may know her from many worlds—work, standup comedy, theatre, farmers market/open space/playground hangs, and mommy meetups,” Genevieve de Mahy wrote as part of a fundraising effort.
“If you know Jessica, you know this type of kindness is at the core of who she is.”
Garrett and her family were able to make it out of the home safely from the massive fire, but it is believed that they lost everything, though she has a temporary place to stay in the interim.
“She will need to start from scratch—replacing all of her belongings, finding a new home, possibly a new car, and other expenses,” organizers of the GoFundMe wrote.
