Baltimore fire crews battle large woodpile blaze in Druid Hill Park

Firefighters are battling a brush fire involving a large pile of mulch and tree logs in Druid Hill Park on Sunday morning, according to city fire officials.

In a post on the social media platform X at 6:57 a.m., fire officials said multiple Baltimore City Fire Department units were engaged a “large pile of cut wood fully engulfed in flames.”

No injuries have been reported, according to the post.

An update posted by the department at 7:30 a.m. said crews are still working to fully extinguish the Northwest Baltimore fire and that large equipment was needed to move debris.

The cit’s Recreation and Parks forestry division was en route to the park to assist with the fire, which has been contained to the mulch and tree piles, according to the post.

The fire department has not yet disclosed any information on the cause.

Maryland is under a burn ban instituted by the Department of Natural Resources due to dry conditions this autumn.

“While most of the state experienced varying amounts of rain earlier this week, fuel and drought conditions continue to be well above normal seasonal highs,” the department said Tuesday . “These conditions coupled with low humidity and gusty winds expected in the next several days will once again raise fire danger across the state.”
