There is a short-term goal, and it is an important one, as the Pittsburgh Steelers will look to improve their lead in the AFC North against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
At 7-2, the Steelers have just a half-game edge on the 7-3 Lamar Jackson-led Ravens. A big reason for the Steelers’ advantage this late into the season has been the emergence of quarterback Russell Wilson, who came in as the team’s starter in Week 7 and is 3-0.
And that leads us to talk of a long-term goal.
Although Wilson has been a great addition to Pittsburgh, he is about to turn 36 (on November 29). For most NFL QBs, a 13-year career is a notable accomplishment. And “DangerRuss” in Pittsburgh? This was to some supposed to be a one-year rental as he is set to be a free agent after this season.
But Wilson is now addressing retirement thoughts … by essentially saying he’s thinking of no such thing.
“I definitely want to play another five to seven years,” Wilson said via ESPN. “I think that’s always been my goal, I’ve been clear about that since the beginning. I think that’s always been my mindset, is the longevity of the game. I’ve been fortunate to be able to play 200-plus games and really not miss many. …
