The number of Baltimore’s thousands of vacant and abandoned houses is about to be reduced on a tiny street off Green Mount Cemetery in the Johnston Square neighborhood.
That thoroughfare is Mura Street, where only five residents have stuck it out in a city block where some homes are threadbare; only a brick front wall remains in some properties. And yet, those steadfast few residing on the 700 block of Mura, between Greenmount and Homewood avenues, remain optimistic.
Sharon Duncan, who recalled living on the street before the 1968 riots, said, “I’ve seen the street good and I’ve seen the street bad.”…
