Baltimore teen critically injured in shooting amid youth violence concerns

A 17-year-old male is in critical condition and a 17-year-old female is recovering from a gunshot wound following an early morning shooting in the Edgewood neighborhood of Southwest Baltimore. The incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to Baltimore police.

Officers responding to the scene reported, “Give us the air, we got blood all over, we got blood all over the porch. We’re trying to get entry into the house.” Inside, they found the male victim shot in the head, while the female victim managed to walk herself to the hospital.

The shooting comes shortly after Mayor Brandon Scott announced a Summer Youth Engagement strategy aimed at reducing juvenile violence. “The number of youth shooting victims decreased 66 percent and aggravated assault victims dropped 31 percent,” said Scott during the announcement. He emphasized, “Those are the exception. The rule for our young people, that they are living positive lives and want to be the best version of themselves.”…
