The incident began when officers from the Northern District patrol division observed a silver Honda Accord with an equipment violation traveling on Ritchie Highway near 11th Avenue at approximately 11:30 PM Wednesday. Upon initiating a traffic stop, officers noted that the driver, identified as Darnell Thompson, 27, of Baltimore, exhibited nervous behavior and provided inconsistent answers about his destination and activities.

“The responding officers’ training and experience allowed them to recognize several indicators of possible criminal activity,” explained Lieutenant James Carson, Northern District commander. “Their attention to detail and thorough investigation turned a routine traffic stop into the recovery of a dangerous weapon that could have been used in future crimes.”…
