Md. real estate pros set up sting for ‘Bad Bodiez Leasing,’ leads to unrelated arrest

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WBFF) — A citizen-led sting by Maryland real estate professionals targeted a woman who was allegedly selling an unauthorized rental agreement for a home she purportedly had no connection to, leading to an unrelated arrest and highlighting law enforcement’s challenges in policing suspected squatter incidents.

Amanda Newby, a licensed realtor based in Laurel, Md., with RE/MAX, told Spotlight on Maryland on Thursday that she wanted to protect her client, who had asked her about a potential rental home advertised for a one-time annual fee.
