Baltimore’s drug crisis: voices from the epicenter

At the intersection of Penn and North, a notorious hub for the city’s drug trade, the voices of those affected by addiction echo through the streets. “These are the everyday people that’s out here who’ve been rejected by the system of Baltimore,” said Kenny Ebron, highlighting the struggles faced by many in the community.

The area recently witnessed a harrowing day when medics rushed 27 people to the hospital, all victims of overdoses from an unconfirmed concoction of drugs. “It’s sad. People are mothers, uncles, aunts you know… dying… people are hurt,” said another voice from the community.

Arthur McSpadden, a 62-year-old who has battled heroin addiction for 20 years, shared his precarious existence. “I don’t, I don’t, I just have faith that I don’t go out or be dead,” he said when asked how he knows his next fix won’t be fatal…
